Wing Band Officer

As Wing Band Officer I am keen to see musicians from throughout the Wing enjoy some of the benefits of having a Marching Band available to them, providing them with an additional outlet for their talents that would otherwise remain untapped.

As the Commanding Officer of 104 (City of Cambridge) Squadron I have had the pleasure of experiencing our band growing from a keen but unstructured team of drummers in late 2000 to becoming National Air Training Corps Champions in 2004 and runners-up in 2005.

This build up from very humble beginnings has involved, by luck, the recruitment into the squadron of some very talented musicians, especially in the woodwind section. The other key factor in our success has been, from everyone involved in the band, the sheer hard work and determination that have been shown.

Success brings confidence. Confidence brings quality. Quality brings success… and so it goes on.

We have now started the process of regeneration of music within the Wing through a Band Workshop held in December 2005. We hope that this can continue in the coming months to help encourage all of the cadet musicians, throughout Beds and Cambs Wing.
